Race, Trauma, & Wellbeing: Times That Call For Love
an embRACE(™) training collaboration*
with angel Kyodo williams, Hala Khouri, and Kerri Kelly
"I’m very interested in what it means for us to cultivate together a community that allows for risk, the risk of knowing someone outside your own boundaries, the risk that is love – there is no love that does not involve risk." - bell hooks
We are thrilled to have Rev. angel Kyodo williams and Kerri Kelly joining OTM co-founder Hala Khouri to come together for a powerful and practical experience. In this unique training, we explore the connection between personal and social transformation through the lens of race and power in the United States. Through practices of centering, contextualization, conversation, and community, we prepare ourselves to recognize and disrupt self-limiting patterns as a gateway to love and liberation - of self and society. We learn to embody wholeness, reclaiming parts of ourselves that we may have cast away in seeking a sense of belonging. With effort, we can cultivate the internal resources to respond to our life and world, developing the resilience necessary to truly begin transforming society.
In a time when there is a strong public rhetoric around building walls and fearing difference, this work of risking connection is more vital than ever.
Topics covered during this training include:
• discovering embodied radical love as both path and vision
• cultivating critical consciousness
• articulating a shared vision for change
• disruption as an act of love and courage on behalf of all
• nurturing our deepest desire to be connected
• grounding current reality in historical context of the construct of race
• exposing the design & harmful impact of racialization on both the privileged and disenfranchised
• the role of trauma in collective healing and liberation
• translating practice and values into meaningful action
• understanding your purpose and how it plays into the broader movement
• embodied practices to sustain us
• daily yoga and meditation practice
*embRACE (™): embodied Race and Power Awareness trainings are offered stand-alone and collaboratively to train communities with a lens in foundational awareness of the critical intersections of race, power, and justice from a radically empowered, embodied stance of love
