2010 Bare Witness Humanitarian Tour: February 5-19, 2011
Highlights and Activities
- Daily yoga practice and facilitated exercises for integration of the experience.
- Exploration of Cape Town including District 6 and townships– learning about Apartheid era and forced relocations and hearing personal stories from local citizens.
- Visit to Robben Island and the notorious prison – home to former President Nelson Mandela for 17 years. The island provides an insight into South Africa’s Apartheid history as well as a glimpse into the future especially concerning racial reconciliation. The prison guides are all ex-political prisoners of the island and will share their experiences of prison life during Apartheid.
- Visit and volunteer work with TAC, who since 1988, have become the world’s most effective advocates for increased access to treatment, care and support services for people living with HIV, and have developed campaigns to reduce new HIV infections.
- Volunteer work on various maintenance / cleaning projects at Linawo Children’s Home and interactive activities with the children.
- Homestay accommodation, where you will stay in pairs with a family in their home in the township.
