Is anyone able to sign up for the Seva Challenge?
Yes, anyone can sign up for the Seva Challenge! Please consider joining us at one of our intensives if you sign up! We’d love to meet you!
How will the $20,000 that I raise be spent?
Direct community support: up to 80% of the funds raised will support creation and sustainability of partner projects in Haiti. Seva participant travel for tour: 5% support for air and ground travel, accommodations and trip facilitation for two weeks for each Bare Witness Tour participant. OTM Administrative, Programs and Projects Support: remaining funds support continued expansion and sustainability of the Empowered Youth Initiative, as well as administrative support for all OTM programs and projects.
What if I don’t raise the full $20,000?
If you don’t raise the full $20,000, please know that your money is going to support our partner organizations and the work of OTM! Congratulate yourself for making a difference!
What are the dates of the trip to Haiti?
February 5-19, 2012, subject to change.
If I go on the Bare Witness Tour, can I extend my trip?
Yes, there are always ways to extend your trip. You can arrange details with the flight desk when the time gets closer.
What costs will OTM cover for the Bare Witness Tour participants?
OTM will cover the following costs for each tour participant:
AIR TRAVEL
We will be organizing round-trip airfare out of the international airport closest to where you live. You will be responsible for getting to your departure airport. Travel insurance will also be provided.
GROUND TRAVEL AND ACCOMMODATIONS
Accommodations and all meals will be provided. In addition, transportation to and from the airport, all sightseeing trips, security, and daily transportation will be provided.
YOGA AND LEADERSHIP TRAINING
There will be one yoga class each day, evening workshops, and additional leadership training. We will also provide follow-up support after the trip for full integration of the experience.
If I am raising $20,000 with another person, do we both get to go on the trip?
No, only one of you will be able to go. In order for you both to go, you will need to raise a combined total of $40,000.
Will donors receive tax receipts for their contributions?
Yes, contributions to The Engage Network are tax deductible to the limits of applicable laws. Taxpayers are required to retain written receipts for donations over $250. We will send tax deductions to US based donors that donate $100 or more. At this time, we will not be issuing any tax receipts to international donors
I'm hosting a silent action and received in-kind donations from different companies. Are you able to issue tax deductions for their contributions?
We do not issue tax deductions for in-kind donations for participant’s events. Technically, the product is being donated to you, the participant, not directly to the Engage Network. Also, we do not have the bandwidth to fulfill such requests. There are a few exceptions.
What if I don't raise the full $20,000?
Please know that every dollar that you raise and every person that you touch is going toward our projects and partners on the ground, and is making a difference for the people of Haiti. Additionally, many past seva participants have said that the most life-changing aspect of taking the Challenge was not going on the trip after all - it was about rising up as a leader in their community over the course of the year, and achieving a goal that may have seemed at first to be impossible. So if you don't raise the full $20,000, please know that your money is going to support our partner organizations on the ground and the work of OTM! Congratulate yourself for making a difference and being part of this wonderful community!
What form of payment is best for donations to the Seva Challenge?
It is preferable for donations to be made through our online donation system (via Network for Good), Facebook Causes, or via check. Note that we are charged a small transaction fee for every online donation received, so checks are a great way to receive the full donation amount, especially in the case of larger contributions. Donations can also be made via money order, cashier's check or cash.
Who do I connect my Facebook Cause to?
Please choose "The Engage Network" as the beneficiary.
How will you know if someone donates via my Facebook Cause?
We receive a notification every time a donation is made via Facebook Causes. Please make sure that your name appears in the title of your Facebook Cause so that we can be sure to allocate donations received toward your fundraising goal. Any donations received via Facebook Causes will be included on your individual spreadsheet sent out weekly.
Who should payment be made out to?
Checks should be made out to "Off the Mat, Into the World".
What do I do with the money when I collect it?
Keep a record of what you have raised and send the checks to our P.O. Box and make sure that YOUR NAME appears on the memo line of EACH check you send in:
Off the Mat, Into the World
GLOBAL SEVA CHALLENGE
P.O. Box #14908
San Francisco, CA 94114
Do I need to create my own bank account?
No. Please make the checks payable to "Off the Mat, Into the World" and include your name on the memo line of each check. Send the money to our PO Box listed above. Online donations are also welcome!
Can you please provide me with 501(c)(3) documentation?
Yes. We can provide 501(c)(3) documentation for The Engage Network, OTM's parent organization. All of the money that is received by OTM is funneled through Engage so that our supporters can receive tax receipts for their generous contributions.
Can you provide me with legal accreditation or some other legal documentation?
Unfortunately not. As a Seva participant, you are voluntarily fundraising and mobilizing your community to benefit the people of Haiti. This makes you a valuable part of Off the Mat, Into the World's efforts! However, signing up for the Seva Challenge does not make you a legal representative of Off the Mat or The Engage Network.
